Welcome to The Story Spanner, my blog making things for the Genesys Roleplaying Game from Fantasy Flight Games. I've been a longtime player and gamemaster of its predecessor, the Star Wars Roleplaying Game (also from FFG) and I'm excited to make content for the same core system, now suitable for any setting.
What is Genesys?
Genesys is a tabletop roleplaying game in which the dice encourage you to tell stories together. To find out more about it, check out FFG's official product page, the community forums, the subreddit, or the Discord server.
What's on this Blog?
There are plenty of good introductions to the Genesys Roleplaying Game and elevator pitches for its narrative dice. This blog won't be one of them. Mostly, my content is aimed at other gamemasters and community designers who love Genesys. I'll be writing posts and releasing modules in the following categories:
- Advice: ideas for making Genesys games run smoothly and effectively at the table.
- Game Aids: printable tools (e.g. character sheets, cheat sheets, index card templates, etc.).
- Modules: adventures and settings ready to play with your copy of the Genesys Core Rulebook, along with smaller rule kits designed to work with the core rules and be easily adaptable to many settings.
- Patterns: useful guidelines and general solutions (i.e. design patterns, if there can be such a thing for RPGs) for creating your own Genesys content in a way that will fit with the core rules and other modules.
There will also be some of my Star Wars Roleplaying content and modules that end up on The Story Spanner. I was preparing to launch a fan site for the three Star Wars Roleplaying lines last year, but I shifted gears in a major way after the release of Genesys last December.
